- DUE to recent infestation of some of our waters with non-native species some additional regulations have been developed to prevent the spread to other waters.
- Dark houses must be removed from the ice no later than 12:01 a.m. on March 17, 2022.
- No gill net shall be set in a river or stream or within three hundred (300) feet of the inlet or outlet of any river or stream between the opening of fishing and June 15 of each season.
- The commercial taking of non-game fish by hoop net, trap, seine or other means shall be permitted at times, limits, and locations specified by special permit upon application to the Leech Lake ORM office in Cass Lake.
- All requests for netting helpers permits are for personal use gill netting only and wil1 be issued to immediate family members of a Leech Lake enrollee. Applicants must meet criteria and residency requirements stated on the special permit application form.
- Special permit applications are available at the Leech Lake ORM office in Cass Lake.
- As of April 16, 2015, Lake Winnie is CLOSED to commercial netting activities until FURTHER NOTICE, however, it will remain open for personal use netting activities within the approved season dates listed above.
Migratory Waterfowl
Ducks, Coots, Mergansers - September 17, 2022 - December 31, 2022
Daily bag limit: Ten (10) in any sex or combination with the exception of the following restrictions: Daily limit may not contain more than five (5) Pintails, five (5) Canvasbacks, & five (5) Blackducks.
Possession/Transportation limit: Twenty (20) in any sex or combination with the exception of the following restrictions - possession/transportation limit may not contain more than ten (10) Pintails, ten (10) Canvasbacks and ten (10) Blackducks.
Geese (for hunting over land or water) - August 27, 2022 to December 31, 2022
Daily bag limit: ten (10), all species, in any sex or combination.
Transportation limit: Twenty (20), all species, in any sex or combination.
Leech Lake Reservation Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days: September 10-11, 2022
General Regulations for the taking of migratory waterfowl >
- Open water hunting of waterfowl is closed on or near rice beds that are being actively harvested.
- The use/possession of lead shot loads when taking migratory game birds within the Leech Lake Reservation is prohibited.
- Shooting Hours - One half hour before sunrise to one half hour after sunset.
- The use of live decoys or baiting is prohibited.
- The commercial use of migratory game birds is prohibited.
- Waterfowl may not be taken from a watercraft while it is under motorized power.
- Hole in the Bog Lake and Drumbeater Lake are designated Wildlife Refuges and are restricted from any migratory game bird hunting.
- It is advised that all persons have a coast guard approved life saving device (PFD) on board while waterfowl hunting.

Daily bag limit: Six (6)
Possession Limit: Twelve (12)
Trapping
Beaver - October 1, 2022 to May 9, 2023, No limit
Coyote - Continuous Season, No limit
Fox - October 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023, No limit
Mink/Muskrat - October 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023, No limit
Raccoon - October 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023, No limit
The furbearers listed below require LLR trappers to obtain state export tags from the DRM office in Cass Lake. There will be a three (3) day grace period for tagging furs after the end of the season date listed.
Bobcat - November 5, 2022 to January 31, 2023, Limit: Five (5)
Fisher - November 5, 2022 to January 31, 2023, Limit: Three (3)
Pine Marten - November 5, 2022 to January 31, 2023, Limit: One (1)
River Otter - October 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023, Limit: Four (4)
