Tribal Employment & Training Programs

The Leech Lake Employment & Training Program provides services to all eligible Leech Lake Enrollees who are receiving Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) services in our area. The four counties are Beltrami, Cass, Hubbard and Itasca. The focus of the program is work first, training and education second. We also assist with supportive services to ensure consumers maintain their jobs or find emplyment.

Diversionary Work Program (DWP)

Diversionary Work Program (DWP) is a short term work focused program implemented July 1, 2004. DWP is for families applying for cash benefits. It provides a maximum of 4 consecutive months in a 12 month period of quick and intense employment and/or supportive services prior to Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) participation. DWP is expected to divert many families from ever having to apply for MFIP.

Family Stabilization Services Program (FSS)

FSS was established February 1, 2008, and can be pre or post 60 months for participants who meet five criteria that require documentation from a qualified professional which certifies: illness, injury, incapacity or diagnosis and includes a statement determining the participants employability.

Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
Native Employment Work (NEW) Program

MFIP has a limit of 60 months of assistance. Provide twelve (12) week work experience to eligible Consumers. All job searching consumers are required to attend Job Skills & Club Classes.

Education is limited to 12 months or less provided that the education received will ensure that consumers will have employment in that specific area and the job is available. Consumers 20 years and under are required to finish their education, either high school or GED.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants are referred to the Leech Lake Tribal Employment & Training Programs through their county worker. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements to qualify. Eligibility is determined by the county intake worker.
  • Leech Lake Band Member

  • Referral needed from the county intake worker
  • Additional documents may be requested at the time of application
